Random Thoughts #1
A Draft
Hello, this is your author speaking. I wanted to share that we've reached sixteen words, and it's just the beginning of something exciting! If you keep reading from left to right, you’ll eventually notice you’ve reached the opening chapter. Since you’ll certainly notice this is a story of written words, not onboard business class on a Boeing 737, I’ll stop this nonsense.
To know that the world can end at any moment is bad news, especially on the day of your last mortgage payment.
I think, I thought - I bought. What did I buy, you might ask? A mask? Or maybe a screw cap hip flask? Sorry again; I’ll stop this gibberish. Seeing that this article is a draft, and I am the writer/author of this “story,” I think this hogwash will continue.
Think Martin, think! So he started thinking. Thinking of planes, how his socks felt itchy, and why AI is so damn soulless. Wait, soulless? AI with a soul? If AI had a soul, it wouldn’t be artificial, and what is the meaning of artificial?
I asked Google, and this is the answer:
“Made or produced by human beings rather than occurring naturally, especially as a copy of something natural.”
I am still not satisfied, so I asked Miriam Webster dictionary:
1 a: made, produced, or done by humans especially to seem like something natural: man-made
an artificial reef
artificial sweetener
an artificial limb
artificial diamonds
Let’s turn this around. Can I say my mother and father produced/made me?
Yes, I can. But that would not make me artificial because I am natural, produced by nature. But isn’t AI made by us? Humans, we are a product of nature, and AI is a product of humans, so is AI natural? Maybe. It’s become a natural part of our day-to-day interactions with technology. While only about 40–50% of people knowingly use generative AI, nearly 99% interact with AI-powered tools like social media algorithms, GPS, and streaming services weekly.
So I went straight to the source and asked AI itself.
AI = software that can perceive, learn, and act in ways that look “smart.”
Looks like my humble digital servant didn’t want to talk to its master about the subject. I don’t blame the system for not bringing me an answer. To debate and philosophize about a soul is not a computer’s job. Philosophizing about a soul and life is natural, and AI isn’t supposed to be natural since it’s artificial. Now it’s time to wrap up this draft about random thoughts.
The very technology that makes our lives simpler makes society more complex. The more efficient we get, the more specialized we become and the more dependent. The fact that we are slowly replacing our brains with “machines”, putting our trust in machine learning, and not learning on our own, naturally. AI is a great tool, but that’s it. It’s only a tool, not the foundation of your style and intelligence.
Thanks for reading. If this resonated, you can help me keep writing by buying me a coffee. I’m grateful for all the support and help.
